Daytona Beach, FL – The Pilot Club of the Halifax Area (PCHA) recently celebrated its 40th anniversary, marking four decades of unwavering commitment to the community. Founded on May 23, 1983, the PCHA has grown from a small group of dedicated individuals to a significant part of the Florida District of Pilot International, boasting over 625 members across 28 clubs in the state.
The inception of the PCHA is a testament to the vision of its founding members. Originally part of the Pilot Club of Daytona, these individuals recognized the need for an additional organization to better serve the community. Thus, the PCHA was born, and it has since been a beacon of hope and support for countless individuals and organizations.
Pilot International, the parent organization of the PCHA, was established in 1921 in Macon, GA. With a mission centered around “Friendship and Service,” Pilot International has expanded its reach to countries such as Japan, the Bahamas, and South Africa. Today, with over 5,515 members globally, Pilot International continues to uphold its commitment to “Do More, Care More, Be More” for communities worldwide.
The PCHA’s dedication to the community is evident in its selection of non-profits and projects to support. Following the “ABCs” set forth by Pilot International, the PCHA focuses on:
- Advocating Leadership and Service in Youth and Young Adults
- Brain Safety and Health
- Caring and Supporting Families in Times of Need
These guidelines ensure that the PCHA’s efforts are directed towards areas of utmost need in the community. Recent beneficiaries of the PCHA’s donations include the Rose Marie Byron Children’s Center, which provides afterschool programs and weekend meals to underprivileged youth; Barracks of Hope (Halifax Union Ministries), which offers a therapeutic Safe Room for veterans experiencing PTSD and other challenges; the Jewish Federation of Volusia/Flagler Counties, which runs a successful Backpack program for school children; and the Healthy Start Coalition of Volusia/Flagler Counties, which conducts a Diaper Drive for mothers in need.
The impact of these donations is profound. Brandy Conaway, Program Director at Halifax Union Ministries Barracks of Hope, shared, “The Safe Room donated by the Pilot Club has been instrumental in providing a calming environment for our residents. It’s now used daily to help with PTSD, anxiety, and more.”
The PCHA is not resting on its laurels. Upcoming initiatives include the “Mingle and Jingle” fundraising event on December 2nd, pecan sales for the holiday season, and the BrainMinders™ program, which educates children as well as adults about traumatic brain injury and brain disorders. The club seeks opportunities to teach children and adults how to protect their brain and improve memory through presentations in groups such as schools, pre-schools, and daycares.
Community members looking to support the PCHA’s efforts can attend the Mingle and Jingle event, purchase fresh pecans, or learn more about the BrainMinders™ program. More information is available on the PCHA’s Facebook page or by contacting them directly at [email protected].
The Pilot Club of the Halifax Area’s 40-year journey is a testament to the power of community, dedication, and service. As they embark on the next chapter, the PCHA remains committed to making a positive impact on the lives of those they serve.
